Code & Me

Hello again #HasheFollowers!

What has Hashe done this week? Well, Stay tuned, because #FunTings abound.

As you’ve probably guessed, this post is about Code. First, what is code? A series of zeroes and ones manifesting as text, images, animations, and algorithms. Those are behind the scene though. The actual ‘coding’ you see on TV where hackers are typing at ultra speeds breaking into banks or space stations, is what we do. But we “code” websites, web/mobile applications, and web/mobile portals. This means we build them from the ground up, coding our way through the pages, slowly and steadily typing the functions we need on a bunch of different programs like Java, HTML, Angular JS, WordPress, Laravel, and I can go on for a while.

Now think about this, each of those programs has its own computer language, some of which can be embedded into other programming languages, some of which have to be used in conjunction with other programs, and some programs are non-compatible with others. We have experts here at Hashe Computer Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd. for each and every one of these programs, and a lot of people are experts in multiple programs and multiple programming languages. That is thousands of line of code a day, on multiple programs, on anywhere from 2-6 projects that are being worked on simultaneously by any one person.

Code & Me

Now to put that in perspective, think of it this way and place yourself in this analogy. You are a chef (Chef = Coder here). You have in front of you various ingredients: vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, sweets, etc., a whole selection of things to choose. Now, think of all your ingredients as your basic “cooking” skills aka ‘coding skills’. Still with me? Okay. Now imagine all the different types of Cuisines there are: Chinese, Italian, French, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, Spanish, etc. These are your Programs (Cuisines = Programs). Now think about how different each cuisine is from each other, how it takes to make each type of cuisine, how well some cuisines go with each other and how some are bad together, how some require more effort and focus and some require less, etc. That’s how programs work as well.

Now to bring an end to this analogy, as a chef you can specialize in what cuisine you want to cook professionally, just like coders specialize in programs. Now as a chef, you can specialize in more than one cuisine, probably those that go well together. You are now an expert ‘Chef’ in your field, cooking more than one cuisine together and excelling at it. As a ‘coder’, professionally known as a Programmer or a Developer, you are an expert in more than one program and programming language, and thus an added value to those you work with. That is what and whom Hashe has in its ranks, value added.

Code & Me

Here at Hashe, we have women working as Programmers, Developers, as Designers, and as Heads of Department. Women in power, in a Male Dominated Industry, supported and encouraged, this is how we make Change Happen. Women of all backgrounds and walks of life are working at Hashe Computer Solutions, a company that is part of the ‘Solution‘. Below are two of our female designers and developers, working on assignment and creating, editing, and generating Designs and also thousands of lines of code.

What Else Happened This Week? Well, It was International Cat Day on the 29th of October, this past Tuesday! What else? Oh yes, Halloween! October 31st was yesterday! We had small gathering of witches, warlocks alike, goblins, ogres, and vampires alike. We had one small twist in our Halloween though (how fitting for the end of Spooktober) and mixed it with Cultural Day here at Hashe, thus creating the best of both worlds. Animal Lovers Out There?

Hello again #HasheFollowers!

What has Hashe done this week? Well, Stay tuned, because #FunTings abound.

Okay then, #FunTings Numero Uno: We have dogs! So many dogs! Yay! We have 5 dogs on the premises right now. Did you know that the Big Boss CEO Mamoon Rashid had 19 dogs at one point?! Wowza! Being an animal lover myself, I was impressed that my new employer is such an avid animal supporter. Max, Lucy, Flake, Snow, and Rose are absolutely gorgeous Golden Retrievers that so friendly that I had to say hi immediately #WorthIt.

#FunTings Numero Dos: We also have cats! We have 11! ELEVEN! 11! cats in the building! Our other Big Boss CAO Sedeqa Mamoon is the owner and ruler of these 11 fine, furry, friendly felines we have running around. I’ve even met some of these pretty little kitties, one a brown Persians called Fawn (but the office calls her Shagufta, shh don’t tell :P) and her sister a white Persian called Frost. Though I haven’t met their various babies yet, they’re called Simba, Ginger, Pepper, Coco, Channel and Goldie, Frenkestein, Chalako Maasi (TroubleMaker), and Blue Eyes… and if you thought that was it, there are FOUR more babies that haven’t even been named yet. If that isn’t the most adorable thing you’ve ever heard, Simba got hurt so he’s under house arrest until he gets better. Here’s a picture of Simba to keep you satisfied 🙂

Origins

Hello again #HasheFollowers!

What has Hashe done this week? Well, Stay tuned, because #FunTings abound.

What shall we discuss today? As you’ve seen from the name, I thought I’d share a little more about our origins. Not just ‘our’ as in Hashe but ‘our’ as in the general Our.

#FunTings Numero Our: Human are 40%’s stardust. Let that sink in. Don’t you feel awesome? You have literal stardust flowing through your veins because some random star exploded 2.5 billion years ago, and ta-da! here we are 🙂 That always makes me feel better.

Origins

Now that we’re all feeling good, let’s talk about how Hashe came to be, as I just found out and it’s a super sweet story.

Okay so, I asked the Big Boss CEO Mamoon Rashid where the Hashe name came from and how it was pronounced (it’s ‘Haa-shay’ btw, but anyhoo).  He started telling me a story that actually went way back and actually involved his father #sentimental. So one Mr. Rashid Sr. named Abdul Rashid Sheikh (post-retirement) went to Karachi because an old friend lived there, one Mr. Haq. Both of them went into business together, and the name ‘Hashe’ is an amalgamation of both senior partners in writing. ‘Ha’ from one business partner and ‘She’ came from one Mr. Rashid Sr. aka. Abdul Rashid Sheikh, the Big Boss CEO Mamoon Rashid’s father.

Following me so far my #HasheFollowers? Okay so, from there, ‘Hashe International’ was born and went on a for a few years. Mr. Rashid Sr. came back to Lahore and continued the company till the time of his death in 2009, even though last few years were not very active. When Mr. Rashid Sr. did come back to Lahore, Big Boss CEO Mamoon Rashid wanted to take his fathers’ companys’ name. What a legacy, right? Then, he started Hashe Computer Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd., the firm we all know and love today, a firm that in fact just celebrated its 21st Birthday in September, if you can believe it.

Origins

Mamoon Rashid and Max

This week on Wednesday, the 16th of October, was International Boss’s Day. Here’s what Mr. Rashid said to me verbatim, “I turned my passion into my profession, because if you love what you do, you never have to work all your life, because you’re just following your passion and following what you love… That is why I’m still so energetic and still, you know, on the go, because I love what I do.” This is all #unfiltered too. Not bad, huh?

What Else Happened This Week? Well, Former No. 2 overall pick in the #NBA @HasheemTheDream mentioned us in his tweet!! Check out our Twitter! This week additionally included #GlobalHandWashingDay, #AdoptionWeek, #ConflictResolutionDay, and today: #BreastCancerAwarenessDay (it’s also this whole month). So pin something #Pink to your lapel and #WearItPink to show your support.

Life at Hashe :P

What has Hashe done this week? Well, stay tuned because #FunTings abound.

Life, or Work-Life I should say, at Hashe is good. There’s friendship and camaraderie and togetherness at this firm. Not many employees can say that about the companies that they work for. I’ve been here a short time and I already feel like part of the work family. We discuss the things we’re unsure of and we give each other boosts when we need it and support each other when we’re down. Under it all, I can see everyone who works here has a sense of pride that they’re part of #TeamHashe.

Life at Hashe :P

Yesterday was #WorldMentalHealthDay all over the world. Did you know that “[t]wo-thirds of tech workers feel stressed and over half (52%) have suffered either anxiety or depression at some point”? (according to Diginomica) It’s very easy for those that work with computers all day long, to get caught in that downward spiral where there are negative thoughts aplenty. This is why Hashe holds regular activities like the one we held on Wednesday, at the company Headquarters in Lahore, a company-wide Quiz Competition. It’s important to take breaks from time to time and play a few games with your coworkers. It shows that in work, there is also space to breathe. This is another great way to build rapport with your coworkers, participating in a company social, putting yourself out there.

Life at Hashe :P

Speaking of putting ourselves out there, Hashe’s very own CEO Mamoon Rashid and CAO Sadeqa Mamoon participated in the Quiz Competition. Seeing our leaders making a conscious effort with us and for us, participating, enjoying, and having fun with us, is uplifting. Seeing that they’re willing to do the max to hang with us and let us get more comfortable with them is a huge step of why companies like this are worth working for. They show us that we’re not just hires off the job market, but important cogs of a well oiled and much loved machine that’s worth something.

Let’s see, what else have we done?

We’ve been working on our Social Media Pages:

Well, we’re working on some exciting new things for Hashe’s future. I can’t say much but stay tuned until next week, when there’s more I can reveal. Can’t wait to show you all what’s going on behind the scenes here.
